Questionnaire Analysis

Questionnaire Analysis:

From the recent questionnaire I had people take, I was able to work out that 55% of the audience was female and 45% of the audience was male. It was also discovered that a massive 70% of the college participants would not pay for a college magazine and that the things that would encourage them to pay for it would be things they can relate to such as music, college information and gossip. A problem for producing the college magazine would be advertising it as most people don’t read the magazine in the first place putting a section in there would be pretty pointless. However, this questionnaire also discovered that 80% of the participants regularly check their college emails so by putting an email through to all of the students it is likely they would read and therefore take a good interest in it. 50% of the college said that if a magazine was to be issued they would like to receive one every month instead of the other options available, this then means we are able to provide new stories every month rather than having to replay some by doing it every two weeks. Some of the things people said they would like to see in the magazine is academic such as college new, trips, events and syllabuses, another good idea to put into the college magazine that would be academic is to put small sections of professional magazines such as the Economist for Economics students or Pieces of recent art made for art students to make them engage more with their studies. However a significant amount of people also would like recreational activities such as sport, watching films, music and gossip. If a magazine were to be made a front cover would be vital, we then asked students what sort of things they would like to see on the front cover and the majority of people agreed that using bright colours and things such as images would make it well worth a read and relatable to their college life, because we will be having students prepare this magazine it will definitely be relatable to them. Currently, 100% of the students do not read the current magazine so by us putting our own touch and work into it I’m sure we will be able to turn these figures around!

Analysis:

The magazine ‘Hello!’ features supermodel Coleen Rooney, The masthead is in big bold writing with a red background on the title to add emphasis to what magazine it is, this therefore makes the customer aware of what magazine it is because of the bold yet recognizable print. This magazine only features one image on the front but it covers the whole page, the text is then written on top of the image to give the natural feel of the magazine and to show her surroundings. The font on this magazine is very bold and big to add emphasis to the story lines and to make sure its very eye catching to the audience. The magazine only uses 3 colours White Red and Black to give it a very simplistic yet professional style.

The camera angle of this image is a medium shot to show direct looking at the customer, this engages the reader because we feel like it’s a personal conversation happening. This magazine uses a pull quote to give an insight into what her topic of conversation is going to be about. The quote makes us want to read more into it because we ask ourselves what she has so much to be thankful for. The main cover lines colour also makes it flow very naturally due to it being written over the image.

The main story line is also entitled to be a ‘World Exclusive’ which makes the reader feel they should read about it if the issue is deemed to be that big. This captures the audience because it places emphasis on the importance of this article and with the story being in a well-respected magazine such as Hello! It is definitely worth reading. The way the magazine is laid out represents that it is a magazine of gossip and revealing the truth about people’s lives rather than things such as music or films. This is shown through the simplistic style of the magazine and aside from the obvious there being no music of film titles the lack of reviews, often there would be a review on the front cover of a film magazine giving it either a personal opinion or rating of stars.

The target audience for this magazine is definitely based towards a female audience, this is shown through the image because it portrays most women’s desire to look like and to aspire too. The age range for this audience I would imagine to be based between 25-50 years.

Analysis:

In this image we see a duo called ‘The Last Shadow Puppets ‘standing back to back facing into the camera, Their faces are rather neutral and they are both wearing identical black coats. Both of the pair is staring into the camera lens which subsequently means they’re staring at youmaking a more persuasive technique into you buying the magazine.

The magazine only use 4 colours in their magazine, However the red is dominating most of the magazine which makes it pleasurable to the eye and still represents the manufacturer of the magazine ‘NME’. The use of red and black writing for each sub heading highlights the persuasion to buy this magazine as the stories that are in it are deemed to be well worth a read.  Also the title of the band is highlighted in red and made boldly to make sure people are focusing on the main subject.

The target audience for this magazine is based mainly for people who like the Alternative/Indie genres there for youths and young adults (16-24 year olds). The masthead on this magazine is slightly covered but due to the magazine already being well known they are able to get away with doing things such as this, covering the masthead slightly also highlights the main band being shown and sort of builds their high status and showing that this really is something worth buying.

The image of the band duo is a medium shot and therefore takes up most of the front cover. Both names are written in white contrasting the black coats that each are wearing to add emphasis to the band title. The magazine also features a quote at the bottom of the magazine from one of the duo Alex Turner; this attracts us personally to the magazine because it makes us show interest in the gossip going on between bands.

This magazine only features one image to again place emphasis on the main story line and not to distract our attentions from the main issue this magazine has to offer. And the fonts are very big and bold to add emphasis to the stories.
